Health and safety precautions for travellers

Your health and safety are the keys to fully enjoying the beauty of Vietnam. Below are the most practical precautions that every traveler should keep in mind:

1. Personal Health Protection & Weather Adaptation:

Temperature Adaptation: Vietnam is a tropical country, and the weather in many places can be extremely hot. Drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, and wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses when outdoors to avoid heatstroke.

Insect Protection: In tropical regions, always carry mosquito repellent to protect yourself from Aedes mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever.

Respiratory Hygiene: Even though strict social distancing measures are a thing of the past, you should still proactively wear a mask when visiting overcrowded, dusty public areas, or if you experience cough or fever symptoms to protect the community. Wash your hands frequently with soap or hand sanitizer.

2. Street Food Safety:

Vietnam’s culinary scene is incredibly rich, but be wise and choose clean food stalls that are popular with locals (which is usually a sign of fresh food and high turnover).

Avoid drinking iced water at small, local sidewalk stalls if you have a sensitive digestive system; use bottled water with clear labeling instead.

3. Road Safety & Insurance:

– Traffic: When crossing the street in major cities like Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, walk slowly, pace yourself, and pay close attention to your surroundings so that vehicles can easily yield to you. Always wear a standard helmet when traveling by motorbike.

– Travel Insurance: Always make sure you have purchased travel insurance with good medical coverage before departing to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.

– Medical Care: If you have any signs of persistent fatigue, coughing, or fever, proactively contact reputable medical facilities or the nearest international hospital in the area for timely examination.
