Welcome the first visitors to Ho Chi Minh City in 2023

The number of international tourists visiting Ho Chi Minh City in 2022 is estimated at 3.465.686, representing a 100% increase compared to the same period in 2021, reaching 99% of the goal for 2022. In 2022, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed approximately 31.236.443 domestic visitors, a 234.1% increase over the same period in 2021 and a 24.9% increase compared to the 2022 plan. Tourism revenue in 2022 is estimated at 131.138 billion, making a 196.4% increase over the same period in 2021 and a 45.7% increase compared to 2022's plan.

 

Ho Chi Minh City Tourism is becoming increasingly reputable on the world map with many prestigious awards in 2022 such as "Asia's Leading Business Travel Destination"; "Asia's Best MICE Tourism Destination" and "Asia's Leading City Tourist Board" by the World Travel Awards (WTA). It is also the most popular domestic tourist destination during the peak summer season. Recently, Ho Chi Minh City was named one of two Asian Cities among the top 15 most searched destinations worldwide by the end of 2022.

 

To achieve the results above, Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry and the Department of Tourism have overcome many challenges. The city's tourism industry has been proactive in advising and implementing solutions to achieve sustainable and stable tourism development nationwide.

 

Celebrate the first event to welcome 2023!

Getting the approval of the Leaders of the City People's Committee, on January 1, 2023, the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Vietnam Airlines, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, and Tan Son Nhat International Airport held a welcoming ceremony for the first visitors coming to Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

 

 

The welcoming ceremony for the first visitors coming to Ho Chi Minh City in 2023 aimed to show the hospitality culture of Ho Chi Minh City to tourists and also marks the beginning of the city's tourism industry in the new year. With a welcoming environment and many amazing gifts, the Organizing Committee hopes to provide visitors with genuine hospitality and an incredible experience in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

 

 

From the very first moments, passengers were greeted with Tet traditional activities such as watching calligraphy performances, drawing conical hats, making Vietnamese toy figurines, enjoying tea, or appreciating the ethnic musical instruments performance along with early spring activities. Besides, the Organizing Committee gave flowers and meaningful gifts to passengers who stormed into Ho Chi Minh City in this joyful atmosphere. The city's tourism industry has also prepared flower tea packages infused with our hometown flavor of Tra Viet Cultural Heritage Connection Association - Ho Chi Minh City Cultural Heritage Association, and the novel fruit-flavored coffee packages from SI CAFE as a blessing of peace and prosperity in the coming Spring days.

 

 

Besides, the Organizing Committee also selected 06 lucky special visitors on the international flight VN30 from Frankfurt, Germany to Ho Chi Minh City at 07:25, and 05 lucky visitors on the international flight VJ841 departing from Taiwan (Chinese) to Ho Chi Minh City at 08:50 to give more special gifts - tour programs to experience new tourism products in Thu Duc city organized by TST Tourist service & Trading Corp, and vouchers for free admission, and experience at the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Museum.

 

 

Furthermore, Vietnam Airlines gave 06 lucky passengers on international flight VN30 domestic round-trip tickets (business class) on other flights operated by Vietnam Airline.

 

 

The Organizing Committee also cooperated with Vietjet Air to give international round-trip tickets on flights operated by Vietjet Air to 05 lucky guests on international flight number VJ841.

 

This is a special and annual welcome of the City's Tourism Industry, showing Saigonese’s cultural hospitality; it represents our wish for luck and peace for visitors on the first day of the new year and a kick-off event that marks a successful and prosperous year of the City's Tourism Industry. Hopefully, the event will be the premise for the stable, sustainable, and safe development of the tourism industry in the coming years.

 

 

The tourism industry in Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating in order to attract domestic and foreign tourists in 2023!

It is forecasted that the world economy will undergo a recession in 2023 as a result of the financial crisis and military conflict. This will cause a decline in demand for tourism and entertainment, which will significantly affect Vietnam’s tourism industry in general and Ho Chi Minh City's in particular. The City's tourism industry will focus on implementing the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Development Strategy until 2030 with 04 main goals: (1) Improve and diversify the City's tourism products, focusing on specific tourism products; (2) Focus on the promotion of representative tourism products and attractions; (3) Promote tourism and digital transformations in tourism; (4) Welcome 5,000,000 international arrivals, 35 million domestic tourists with total tourism revenue of 160,000 billion VND.

 

The City's tourism industry will continue to carry out the following key missions:

(1) Improve the efficiency of state management, facilitating the development of businesses and tourism.

(2) Focus on completing and improving tourist destinations and programs. Continue to coordinate with tourism businesses, consulting units, tourism experts, investors, districts, and Thu Duc City to build a set of typical tourism products of the city in association with the Tourism Development Strategy until 2030.

(3) Promote the implementation of information technology to improve the efficiency of tourism promotion.

(4) Focus on cooperation programs in tourism development between Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces/cities;

(5) Focus on training the management and administration of tourism enterprises and direct labor force; organize seminars and short-term professional classes for international and domestic tour guides, and other rare language training classes for tour guides.

(6) Focus on organizing annual cultural events to increase the City’s attraction as a tourist destination.
