Nguyen Tieu Festival - also known as Thuong Nguyen New Year is considered as the cultural beauty of the Chinese people in District 5 in particular as well as the festival of the compatriots and people of Ho Chi Minh City during Tet. For the Chinese community, the Lunar New Year is not only a Tet that brings joy and enjoyment, but also has spiritual meaning, commemorating the merits of ancestors and sages; Wishing your family the best from the beginning of the year.
According to the annual practice, the Nguyen Tieu Festival will officially kick off and be held at the Cultural Center of District 5 and at national architectural and art monuments from the 12th day of the first lunar month until the end of the 15th month. Lunar January.
This year, Nguyen Tieu Festival will be held at the following locations:
1. At the Cultural Center of District 5, from February 2, 2023 to February 5, 2023 (ie, January 12, Lunar to January 15, Lunar) with main activities such as:
- Program of Chinese opera and Chinese music with the participation of Chinese clubs and groups performing alternately.
- The culinary program "Dimsum Week" with hundreds of typical dishes of the Chinese people will be held every night from 2/2/2023 to 7/2/2023.
- In particular, on February 5, 2023, January 15, Lunar, which is also the official holiday of Nguyen Tieu Association, will be televised to introduce unique types of performances:
+ Street art parade with more than 1000 mass actors in colorful costumes along with 05 iconic flower cars (Ho Chi Minh flower car, Quy Mao mascot flower car, Ca Hoa Long flower car). , Dai Phuc flower car and Nguyen Tieu Thinh Hoi flower car)

2. At National level architectural and artistic relics, mainly concentrated in 03 Assembly Halls:
- Tue Thanh Assembly Hall - "Ba Thien Hau Temple" or "Ba Cho Lon Pagoda" - one of the pagodas with the oldest history in Ho Chi Minh City of the Cantonese Chinese language group will open regularly to welcome all visitors to visit and burn incense. There is also the custom of offering incense rings, offering oil lamps for peace.
- Nghia An Assembly Hall - Ong Pagoda (also known as Quan De Temple or Nghia An Hoi Quan); currently located at 676 Nguyen Trai Street, Ward 11, District 5. This is not only a place of worship for the Chinese of Trieu Chau in Saigon, but also a valuable work of architecture and art. and has been recognized as a national architectural and artistic relic: During the Lunar New Year, the pagoda prepares a large number of tangerines, red packets, lanterns... for people to borrow according to the regulations. Unwritten covenant: if you borrow one, next year, on this day, you have to pay it in two. This custom is similar to the custom of asking for good fortune at the beginning of the year of Vietnamese people in many parts of our country. Borrowers pray for favorable weather, favorable weather, national peace and prosperity, good business. In addition, there is a custom of going through the belly of a horse (especially a child) with the intention of eliminating the bad things of young children such as bad habits, praying for health, or eating quickly, being obedient and smart. ..
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, visitors from all over the world come to offer incense to pray for blessings, borrow blessings, watch songs, listen to ancient music... The most exciting are the performances of the traditional lion dance troupes of the Chinese people... Especially, this year, Nghia An Assembly Hall will hold a parade called "Quan Thanh De departs" on February 2, 2023 (January 12, Lunar). This is also one of the unique cultural features of the Chinese of Chaozhou origin.
- Quynh Phu Hoi Quan - Hai Nam Lady's Temple, Hai Nam Assembly Hall: located at 276 Tran Hung Dao Street, Ward 11, District 5, this is an artistic architecture with bold colors of folklore in the Nam Hai region. China). Although built nearly 200 years ago, the artifacts of high artistic and cultural value in the pagoda have been preserved almost intact. In addition to the above main places, at Van Lang Park, there is also a Poetry Night on February 4, 2023 (January 14, lunar) on a large scale organized by the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of many people. The participation of hundreds of actors performing illustrations, introducing immortal poetry projects as well as new poetic works by authors from poetry clubs in Ho Chi Minh City.
