“Art is the conscience of nation” - (Pablo Picasso)
To showcase, preserve, and honor the beautiful Vietnamese artworks, Quang San private art collection is established and welcomes art lovers in for the first time to study and enjoy more than 1,500 Vietnamese artworks of high value in terms of national culture and history. After more than 20 years of collecting, our founders realize that if this collection were to remain enclosed within a small family space for personal enjoyment, it cannot reach those also seeking meaningful and in-depth encounters with Vietnamese arts and art history. Hence, this consideration leads to the establishment of Quang San Art Museum for the growing public’s demand for art appreciation in June 2023. Guided by the vision of its founders, Quang San Art Museum strives to become an inclusive platform helping facilitate great dialogues and foster critical thinking about Vietnamese arts and culture. We welcome all people, domestic and foreign viewers, interested in Vietnamese arts and art history, to visit and discover our collection!
Following a chronological timeline, the ground level exhibits artworks of renowned painters and sculptors who made significant contributions to the development of Vietnamese fine arts. From the generation of French artists and professors who traveled and resided in Indochina in the early 1900s to the first graduate classes of the Indochina school of Fine Arts (1925-1945), the special artworks of prominent names of Vietnamese modern arts are displayed in this room.
The first floor is separated into two display rooms: 1A (1925-1945) and 1B (1945-1975). Both areas are also flexible spaces for the museum’s new exhibitions and arts events. Following the theme on the ground level, room 1A exhibits artworks by the series of artists from the Indochina School of Fine Arts (1925-1945) and further, covers other important names of this period who were not trained under the French-established art educational system. Room 1B focuses on the next 30-year historical period of resistance war against the French colonialist (1945-1954) and the American empire (1954-1975). Here, viewers explore themes of wartime and revolution, displaying works of artists with their life attached to battlefield and military, including artists of the ‘resistance class’, or also commonly known as the ‘To Ngoc Van class’.
The second level, our largest exhibition space, is divided by regions of Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnam. The artworks displayed in this space belong to the post-war period, after the reunification of Northern and Southern Vietnam (1975), and the beginning of the ‘Doi Moi’ (Reform) policy (1986). Moreover, similar to the first level, this is also a flexible space for special exhibitions and other art-related events.
Besides the exhibition rooms, Quang San Art Museum also has a 1000m² garden area, which is surrounded by nature and next to the Saigon River. The garden area will be for guests to relax, admire the scenery, drink coffee, or enjoy museum outdoor activities.
